Model / Brand / Revision

A clear label makes the next step easier.

Match the full model before choosing batteries, instructions or a replacement. Similar-looking remotes can use different systems.

A clear way forward

  1. Look at the back

Copy every letter and number on the model label.

  2. Keep the details

Note the brand, regional markings and hardware revision.

  3. Identify the receiver

Record the opener or external receiver it operates.

Look for the complete model number

  1. Check the back of the remote.

Look for a manufacturer name and model number. Copy letters, numbers, spaces and suffixes exactly.

  2. Keep the battery-holder markings.

If opening the case is permitted by its manual, note the cell type, quantity and polarity before removing anything. Do not force a sealed or damaged case.

  3. Identify the equipment it operates.

Record the garage-door opener or external receiver model. If it controls shared access, ask the property manager to identify the system.

Prepare a few clear photos

  • The front and back of the remote.
  • The complete label, including any suffix or revision.
  • The battery holder, if safely accessible.
  • The opener or receiver label, without opening electrical covers.

Keep serial numbers and access codes private; share only what is needed with the person helping you.

Similar names can mean different devices

LiftMaster 893LM and 893MAX are different models. An aftermarket product may also use a familiar model string. Keep the brand attached to the model number throughout the identification process.

A few useful answers

Common questions

Can you identify a remote by its case alone?

A photo can help, but a similar case is not proof of the exact model or interchangeable electronics. The label is the better starting point.

What should I keep private?

Keep access codes and serial numbers private. Share only the information needed to identify the equipment with the person assisting you.
